Khabarovsk is the capital of the Khabarovsk Krai region and is located at the point where the Amur and Ussuri rivers meet. It has a strong military presence - having been the Far Eastern Military Command headquarters for quite some time - but it has never been closed to foreigners as other militarized cities have been. As a result, it has quite a cosmopolitan feel to it as numerous foreigners - mostly Korean, Japanese and Chinese - either tour the city or settle here.

Khabarovsk is quite heavily industrialized and nearly three quarters of the population have some sort of industry-related job. There are large sections of the city that are filled mainly with factories, but the city has not become dull at all. The city is alive, bustling with commuters, shoppers and tourists.
